John Day talks about his early life on a farm, his 20-year army career (including service in the Vietnam War), and his experiences as a police officer in Columbus, Ga. He describes the equipment and supplies used in by Columbus police officers, going through the accreditation process, and police-community relations. Day also shares his perspectives on race relations in Columbus and other social issues such as summer activities for children and opportunities for older people to participate in the community.

John Day, a native of High Point, North Carolina, joined the Army at age 15 and retired at age 35. During his Army service, he served in Europe, Asia, Canada, and South America. Following his retirement from the military, he joined the Columbus Police Department, where he served for over 24 years. He served as the quartermaster officer for over 12 years.
